What Is It?Pterostilbene (trans-3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxystilbene) is a stilbenoid compund that belongs to the group of phytoalexins. It is related to resveratrol (it is a double-methylated derivative of resveratrol). Pterostilbene is supposed to have anti-cancer, anti-hypercholesterolemia, anti-diabetic, anti-dementia, and anti-hypertriglyceridemia properties. [1,2]
Sources of Pterostilbene
Pterostilbene is found naturally in found in blueberries, grapes, peanuts (Arachis hypogaea), and in Pterocarpus marsupium (Indian Kino Tree).
Pharmacology
1. Bioavailability: 67%-94%; pterostilbene is better absorbed following oral ingestion and is more potent (antioxidant and anticancer) than resveratrol. [3,7,8]
2. Half-life: 78 - 104 minutes. [3,7,8]
What Does Human Research Studies Say?
Lack of studies.
What Does Animal/Tissue Culture Research Studies Say?
1. Increase in life expectancy (longevity) in yeast and mice. [9,10,11]
2. Decreases neuroinflammation in mice and tissue culture of microglia. [12,13]
Conclusion
Well, creatine works and is a very good supplement in those who respond to it.
Verdict: May be added to your supplement stackRecommended Dosage (Used in the Studies)
1. For anti-diabetic and anti-hypertriglyceridemia properties: 215 mg to 730 mg
2. For anxiolytic properties: 5.5 mg to 18 mg
